Scholarships for the International Students in Austria
Austria offers a wide range of scholarships. Candidates are suggested to take advantage of scholarships exclusively designed for their studies. Simultaneous applications for various scholarships are feasible. Only applications from eligible students adequately documented and submitted in due course will be well thought-out.
Applications are ranked as per the qualification of candidates, reason for studying in Austria, value for candidate’s current studies, availability of study and research amenities in Austria. Scholarships are limited to existing funds and are granted eradicating legal procedures. Now, let us discuss about scholarships in Austria:
OeAD Scholarships
The OeAD manages various scholarship programs and provides financial support both for individuals and for scientific projects. OeAD provides scholarships for Bachelor, Master’s and Doctoral degree programs.
Austrian Scholarship for Bachelor Degree Programs
- Ernst Mach Grant: Ernst Mach Grant is granted to students for studying a bachelor degree program at an Austrian university of applied sciences. This grant is given in all fields of study and the duration of this grant is 4 to 10 months. This grant is open to the students below 35 years.
- Scholarship of the Scholarship Foundation of the Republic of Austria: Research scholarships are available for students who are either descendants of forced labourers or who come from countries that have exceptionally suffered from the Nazi regime. This scholarship is available in all disciplines and duration is 4 months. This grant is open to the students below 35 years.
Austrian Scholarship for Master’s or Diploma Program Students
Research scholarships are available for students who are either descendants of forced labourers or who come from countries that have exceptionally suffered from the Nazi regime. Students in Master’s or Diploma Programs get research scholarships, such as Ernst Mach Grant for studying at an Austrian university of applied sciences, Scholarship of the Scholarship Foundation of the Republic of Austria and Scholarship of the Scholarship Foundation of the Republic of Austria for Master’s Studies in the Field of International Relations.
- Scholarship of the Scholarship Foundation of the Republic of Austria: This scholarship is for students pursuing a diploma or master’s course outside Austria and wants to carry out their research work for their diploma or master’s thesis in Austria. The duration of this scholarship is maximum 4 months. This grant is open to the students below 35 years.
- Scholarship of the Scholarship Foundation of the Republic of Austria for Master’s Studies in the Field of International Relations: This scholarship is available to students studying master’s degree program in the area of international relations, social sciences, law and economics. The duration is maximum 10months and is applicable to International Students.
Austrian Scholarship for Postgraduates, PhD holders & Post Doctoral Studies
- Ernst Mach Grant: This scholarship is funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science, Research and Economics (BMWFW) and is available to students and teachers from foreign universities to undertake a study in any domain or research in Austria. The age limit for this grant is 35 years.
- Franz Werfel Grant: The Franz Werfel Grant is for young university teachers in the field of Austrian literature.
- Richard Plaschka Grant: This scholarship is for university lecturers, who deal mainly with Austria-related history. The scholarship entitles them to work as a visiting researcher at an institute or carry out specialist studies in libraries, archives or at research institutions. The scholarship lasts up to 18 months.
Other Scholarships offered by the Austrian Organisations
CEEPUS
Countries participating in CEEPUS are Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Croatia, Czech Republic, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia, and Slovak Republic. Post-graduate students and teachers from these participating countries get the opportunity to come to Austria for further studies or research.
Eligibility Conditions: Students must have at least two semesters of study in the direction in which they are applying, or Students or Teachers must be a citizen of a country or a CEEPUS Equal Status Document.
Duration: Minimum 3 months and a maximum of 10 months.
Vietnam-Austria Scholarship Program
The Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research (OeAD) and the Vietnam International Education Development of the Ministry of Education and Training of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (VIED) have signed an agreement thereby introducing scholarships for Vietnamese students at Austrian universities. The Vietnam-Austria Scholarship is for postgraduate students pursuing a doctoral/PhD program at a university in Vietnam or postgraduates who qualify for a doctoral/PhD program in Austria or graduates taking part in an Austrian-Vietnamese master program.
Indonesian Austrian Scholarship Program
The Indonesian Ministry of Education and the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research and the agreement between the Directorate General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia (DIKTI) and the Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research (OeAD-GmbH) in cooperation with ASEA-UNINET, have launched this scholarship. The Indonesian Austrian Scholarship program is for Indonesian students at Austrian universities. The postgraduates who are qualified for a doctoral/PhD program in Austria can apply for this scholarship. An acknowledgement letter from an Austrian supervisor along with knowledge of German/English language is required.
ERASMUS MUNDUS II – Masters Courses and Joint Doctorate Programs
ERASMUS MUNDUS provides a full-time scholarship to meritorious students from all over the globe, who have applied for an ERASMUS MUNDUS Masters Course or an ERASMUS MUNDUS Joint Doctorate Program.
A Joint Master Degree study course lasts between 1 – 2 (Masters) or 3 – 4 (PhD) years. Students need to study at least at two different European higher education institutions involved.
